uOttawa Synchronized Swimming Ranks High

At the end of January, the uOttawa Synchronized Swimming teams had outstanding performances. The teams have been practicing since September, and have competed in the McGill Invitational, and the Eastern Championship at Queen's.

Other than putting in hard work at practice, "during competitions, we have a lot of team spirit. We are always around the pool encouraging the girls in the pool" says second year Chloé Di Tomasso Massé, "we want every team to be successful." The girls stay motivated and are constantly trying to improve their skills and bring their best every day.

The Garnet team took home fourth in their competition which consisted of a team performance including Emma English, Bridget Moore, Hannah Bayoumi, Natasha Heine, Melanie Robichaud, Pamela Schroeder, Christie Hugman, Valerie Makarewicz-Nault, Catherine Pouliot and Marie Albert. In her solo performance,  Catherine Pouliot ranked second, as did the Novice team which includes Lauren Ross, Elodie Delas, Alexandrine McGermott, Kirsten Mah, Marie Dallaire, Miriam Lagace, Xin Xu and Sarah Zang. Chloé Di Tomasso Massé and Alexandra Miron took home an impressive first place in their Novice duo.

The teams currently have their eyes on the gold medals at the National Championship which will be held February 21st and 22nd at Carleton. Best of luck and we hope to see a crowd cheering on our Gee-Gees! The teams also perform a Water Show April 12th here on campus, which will showcase their routines from the past year.

A routine performed under water, synchronized swimmers need to be in unison with each other and their music. This sport requires water skills, strength, endurance, flexibility and grace, a demanding sport to say the least; however, this did not hold back the Gee-Gees.

The Gee-Gees Synchro Club is student ran, and has been building momentum since they started in 2003. The team is a member of the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League (CUSSL), which consists of 14 other universities. Competitions are either competitive or novice level and are performed as a team, duet, solo or combo event.
